Requirements

Identity Malta is committed to the highest standard of due diligence to ensure only deserving and reputable applicants are allowed to proceed for the grant of Maltese Citizenship. Applicants must show that they are in good standing and repute and will undergo a ‘fit and proper’ test and  a multi-tier due diligence process is carried out directly by Identity Malta that will assess applicants and will process and approve applications at various stages. Applicants must demonstrate a clean criminal record, with various checks with various international organisations conducted by the authorities.

 Furthermore, to qualify under the regulations, the main applicant must:

  • be at least 18 years of age, provide proof of having been a resident of Malta for a period of 12 months preceding the issuing of a certificate of naturalisation
  • Acquire real estate with a minimum value of Euro 350,000 (property must be kept for a period of at least 5 years within which it cannot be let or sublet);OR lease a residential property in Malta for a period of 5 years, at an annual rent of at least Euro 16,000 (property cannot be assigned or sublet);
  • Make a contribution to the National Development and Social fund as well as pay the fees to Identity Malta as indicated below In more detail;
  • Invest in stocks, bonds or special purpose vehicles to be identified from time to time by Identity Malta, for a minimum value of Euro 150,000 (to be held for at least 5 years)

Applicants must have a Global Health insurance cover (including USA and Canada) for at least Euro 50,000 for main applicant and each of the dependants)

Principal applicant may include in their IIP application:

  • Spouse in a monogamous marriage or in another relationship having the same or similar status to marriage;
  • Dependants of 18 years of age and under;
  • Dependants between the age of 18 and 26 years, who are not married and who are wholly supported by the main applicant and form part of the household;
  • Dependants over the age of 55 years (e.g. parents) who are wholly supported by and who form part of the household of the main applicant

Minimum Contribution requirements

For successful applications, the following contributions to the Malta National development & Social Fund are to be made (non-refundable)

  • Principal applicant:  Euro 650,000 (Euro 10,000 paid upon application)
  • Spouse: Euro 25,000
  • Each dependent child aged 0-17: Euro 25,000
  • Each dependent child aged 18-26: Euro 50,000

Due diligence Fees

The following non-refundable fees are payable to Identity Malta upon Application

  • Principal applicant: Euro 7,500
  • Spouse: Euro 5,000
  • Each dependent child aged 0-17 : Euro 3,000
  • Each dependent child aged 18-26: Euro 5,000
  • Each dependent aged 55 and above: Euro 5,000

Other Fees

  • Passport fees (per applicant): Euro 500
  • Bank Fees (per applicant): Euro 200
